How to get a Job at the Wheatstone LNG Project – Onslow WA
In the ‘How to get a job at …….’ series we are going to be running over Australian Mining and Construction projects all over the country. In each post we will include an Overview of the project, a Location Profile, the Companies involved, the Occupations required, the skills / qualifications that will help you to get your foot in the door and the Enterprise Bargaining Agreements. This will help you to stay in the loop and know how to skill up where needed. The aim is to help you get yourself into the best position to land a start on the major sites and projects around Australia.
The Wheatstone LNG Project – Onslow WA
From the Chevron Australia website
The Wheatstone Project is one of Australia’s largest resource projects – providing greater security of supply and significant economic benefits such as employment, government revenue and local business opportunities.
In conjunction with the Gorgon Project, it reinforces our position as a leading natural gas supplier and liquefied natural gas (LNG) operator in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Wheatstone Project will include an onshore facility located at Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Area (ANSIA), 12 kilometres west of Onslow in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The foundation project will include two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and a domestic gas plant.
From The Wheatstone Jobs Website
Something remarkable is happening near Onlsow at Ashburton North, on Western Australia’s Pilbara coast: the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project, a liquefied natural gas development designed and constructed by Bechtel for Chevron.
Bechtel has contracted with Chevron to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the downstream portion of the Wheatstone LNG Project.
Bechtel is among the most respected engineering, procurement, and construction companies in the world. We operate through global business units that specialise in oil, gas and chemicals; mining and metals; civil infrastructure; power generation; communications and transmission; and government services. We stand apart for our ability to get the job done right — no matter how big, how complex, or how remote the project.
We have been in Australia, working with Australians, for more almost 60 years.
Our company is founded on values that Bechtel people all share:
Safety. We have a world-class safety program, and it pays off. About 80 percent of our projects complete each year without a lost-time accident. Our philosophy is simple — every accident, and therefore every injury, is preventable. That’s what we mean by Zero Accident Plus.
Ethics. Bechtel’s culture is grounded in integrity and respect. This means adhering to the highest standards of ethics. Our reputation as an ethical company is one of our most valuable assets. We stand by everything we do.
Quality. At Bechtel, quality means doing the job right the first time. We’ve always delivered quality work, and we are continually striving to improve our performance through Six Sigma and other initiatives.
While we work for governments and commercial customers, our projects also help grow local economies and improve the quality of life for communities and people around the world. Time and again our work has demonstrated that the only limits on human achievement are those that we place on ourselves.

Hi
Ive Just be made redundant on the LNG project in Gladstone as our part has been completed i am looking to either go to the LNG project in Darwin or The Wheatstone Project,I operate excavators,Loaders, skidsteer, moxy trucks water trucks, tipper trucks.Wondering what civil and bulk earthworks are left there.
Geoff
Hey Geoff,
I’m not overly sure about the Wheatstone Project but I know only minimal civil has been started on the Darwin LNG project.
They will start to ramp up after the wet season has finished. It’s probably a good idea to get reusme into the appropriate companies soon.
About half way down the articles there are a list of the companies and a brief description of what works they have been awarded. The company name is actually a link to the relevant website. From here you’ll be able to register your interest of work on each career portal.
Cheers,
Owen @ Cribhut

hi
Ive been applying for jobs in the mines for over a year looking for either carpenter of TA positions and i never seem to get any response. All of my past employers have positive feedback about my work. Iwould love to get up north on either barrow or wheatstone but i cant seem to get my foot in the door to be given a chance. I worked for Monadelphous for 1year in kalgoorlie but had to move home due to family issues. what would be the best way about getting through to someone that wil actually look at it instead of going striaght to the bin
Regards
Reece Child
Hey Reece,
These major projects can be pretty hard to get onto, it’s really important to have all your ducks in a row.
I’ll take a lot over your resume and everything, that’s usually the first step to through the recruitment process. If you can fill out a Cribhut Profile on https://www.cribhut.com.au/workers, upload your resume and tickets/qualifications. Once you have done this flick through an email to workersfeedback@cribhut.com.au
Cheers mate,
Owen @ Cribhut
Hey mate I work on aplng at tha moment but would like to go wa to work on Wheatstone who can I email my résumé to
G’day Arron,
Unfortunately due to thousands of applications and the HR teams recruitment process, there are usually no direct email addresses, unless you know somebody on the inside already.
It’ll be the same process for the Wheatstone project as the Gladstone LNG. You’ll need to register your interest for work on the relevant career portal (links half way down the article under ‘Companies involved in project’ heading.
Cheers,
Owen @ Cribhut
Hi ,
I am a trade qualified Plasterer with over 20 years in the industry. I have ewp & forklift tickets as well as safety officer certificates. I want to do my cert3 in OHS and was looking to find a position as a junior ohs advisor/ officer. I am willing to fifo or move for the right position
Hey Greg,
It’s around the right time of the year for junior or traineeship roles.
Unfortunately the Cribhut platform is taylored specifically for Blue Collar occupations and although OHS officers work along side the workers, it is a White Collar occupation.
The position you’re after will be advertised within each companies Career Portal, here is a link to loads of companies within the Australian Resources Industry.
https://cribhutdaily.com.au/resources/
Good luck mate!
Owen @ Cribhut
Hello,
I have been in the wall and ceiling industry for 13 years and have a cert3 in wall and ceiling lining, working at hights, confined space entry, ewpa yellow card for a s/l, high rish card for a ewp and a current WA drivers license. I am very interested in being a part of my home states (WA) many fantastic opportunities, I just dont know where to start and would greatly appreciate a point in the right direction.
many thancks
Ben Dale
Hey Ben,
I guess first thing is you need to know what industry you’re trying to break in to.
They all have similar occupations in the general occupations, TA positions/labour and trades but all vary from industry to industry for operations.
From reading your email it’s probably easiest to try and secure a TA position in the construction industry, as you already have yellow card, ewp, working at heights and confined space. Every man and his dog are applying for these positions, some will have done it before, some will be in the same boat as you (a different skillset but easily adapted because of extensive trade experience and knowledge) and some will be completely green.
You will need a well structured resume, this is extremely important. If your resume is rubbish that’s where it will end up!
Here’s a couple of articles to help out:
https://cribhutdaily.com.au/2013/01/23/how-to-structure-your-resume/
https://cribhutdaily.com.au/2012/09/26/got-skills-and-experience-but-still-cant-get-a-start-3-tips-from-a-recruiter/
Next, apply for every job going.
Remember to do your research on a company and try to time your application for the large scale construction projects. If your resume pops up at the right time there’s a greater chance it won’t be lost in the pile of applications.
Tailor your resume to the specific position and company you’re apply for, this shows you actually give a hoot and that you’re interested in more than the money.
It is also a good idea to have some experience in the position you’re applying for, as you are not a ‘greenskin’ you won’t need the full amount of relative experience shown in the follow requirements.
Here are the standard requirements for employee’s on these large scale construction projects:
Have at least 3 years heavy industry relative work experience
Have recognised Australian Trade Certifications
Have recognised Australian qualifications
The Right to work in Australia unrestricted
Demonstrated commitment to safety
The ability to undergo a pre-employment medical
This a much shorter and less detailed version of the Cribhut Kickstart Guide. We built it last year to help people break into the reources industry.
It’s free to download, just click through on the link, https://cribhutdaily.com.au/resources/kickstart/
I hope this helps you out mate, good luck with it all. If you have any questions jsut flick me back an email.
Cheers,
Owen @ Cribhut

Hey Brock,
It’s a tough market at the moment mate. Focus on the industries that are still going ahead and the jobs that are ramping up. I’d be applying for every job that is out there.
You resume is the first thing a potential employer will see so ensure it’s tailored to the specific position and company you are applying for.

Hi,
I’m currently a student geologist but am looking for any kind of entry level job at Wheatstone as my partner also works on site for Monodelphous and this would be ideal. I’m just wondering what entry level jobs would be on offer whether it be something to tie in with my geology degree to cleaning or admin etc.
Amy.
Hi Amy,
There will be a fair range of ‘craft’ or blue collar options including labourer, peggy or cleaning and also white collar positions. Your best bet is to start the registration process by clicking through on this link : http://www.wheatstonejobs.com/positions/
This will take you through to a registration page. Go through the ‘General Registration’ option and you will see the list of all Blue Collar and White Collar jobs.
I hope that helps you, good luck!
Owen
Hi Owen,
I’m having a lot of trouble trying to get work on site at Wheatstone or Gorgon. I am a qualified HV Electrician, cert 4 instro tech. I’ve got lots of experience in HV and I’m just getting into mining but wanna go oil & gas. Got heaps of other tickets as well. Are you able to help??
Regards, Phil.
Hey Phil,
Great to see you have relevant experience that will help you out to no end.
You will need to register your interest to work, about half way down the article under the heading ‘companies involved in the project’ there are links to the relevant companies websites. You can register on their careers sections.
Also, it’s important to log back into your profile once a week to refresh your profile. Some of these portals will put the newer registrations on top of yours, pushing yours down the pile. By refreshing your profile will be taken back to the top of the list. Also it can work to your favour calling up the HR staff, introducing yourself and letting them know you’re keen.
Remember it is extremely important to tailor your CV/resume to suit the job you’re applying for.
Here are a couple of Cribhut Daily articles to help out…

Good luck mate,
Owen
