How to get a Job at the Legacy Way Project – Brisbane QLD

In each post we will include an Overview of the project, a Location Profile, the Companies involved, the Occupations required, the skills / qualifications that will help you to get your foot in the door and the Enterprise Bargaining Agreements. This will help you to stay in the loop and know how to skill up where needed. The aim is to help you get yourself into the best position to land a start on the major sites and projects around Australia.
About the The Legacy Way Project
Legacy Way is a 4.6km road tunnel that will connect the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at Kelvin Grove. It will provide an alternative route to local roads for traffic leaving the Western Freeway and travelling to and from the ICB. When it opens, Legacy Way will reduce, by up to 44%, the peak hour travel time of journeys from the Centenary Bridge to the ICB.
From the Transcity website
Transcity has been selected to design, build and operate Legacy Way. Construction on the project is expected to take four years and be completed in 2014. Transcity will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of Legacy Way for 10 years after it opens.
Transcity’s design for the project includes:
- two parallel tunnels, one east-bound and one for west-bound, each containing two lanes for traffic
- cross passages between the tunnels every 120m
- a longitudinal ventilation system to manage in-tunnel air quality
- fire protection and safety management systems
- a free-flow electronic tolling system.
From the Transcity Construction Update Page 23 August 2012
Tunnelling on Legacy Way has started, following the launch of the first tunnel boring machine (TBM), Annabell, this week. Annabell will excavate the westbound tunnel. The second TBM, Joyce, which is being assembled on site, will start excavation of the eastbound tunnel in approximately three months.
It will take approximately 18 months for the TBMs to complete the journey from the western worksite at Toowong to the eastern worksite at Kelvin Grove.
