The Port Nelson Inner Harbour Expansion Project Overview

BHP Billiton capital investment to continue production growth in the company’s Western Australia Iron Ore operations. It will deliver an integrated operation with capacity in excess of 220 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
- US$2.3 billion (BHP Billiton share US$1.9 billion) to further develop Port Hedland, including two additional berths and shiploaders, a car dumper, connecting conveyor routes and associated rail works and rolling stock; and
- US$1.7 billion (BHP Billiton share US$1.4 billion) for port blending facilities and rail yards to enable ore blending, the expansion of resource life and to prepare for the future growth of the business beyond the inner harbour.

Companies Involved with the Port Nelson Inner Harbour Expansion Project
Monadelphous – Comprises structural, mechanical and piping work associated with materials handling and processing facilities at the port operations
Cimeco – The project comprises construction of new facilities as well as refurbishment and upgrades to existing facilities.
NRW Holdings – 13 klms of rail and 23 klms of bitumen sealed access roads in relation to Goldsworthy to Finucane Island Rail Duplication earthworks, Mooka Access Road and Mooka Marshalling Yard.
Fluor & SKM Joint Venture – The construction of two additional berths, two shiploaders, a car dumper, and port blending optimisation infrastructure.

- Occupational Health and Safety – Construction Induction (White Card)

- High Risk Work Licence for any required plant, eg. EWP’s, Forklifts, Mobile Crane, Loaders.
- Safely Working at Heights for EWP workers
- Ability to pass Medical including Drug and Alcohol screening
- Dogging/Rigging Tickets

Port Nelson Inner Harbour Expanion Project Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) is a collective industrial agreement between either an employer and a trade union acting on behalf of employees or an employer and employees acting for themselves.
At this stage of the project no EBA’s can be found. As we find the EBA’s them will be updated into this article.
