In the ‘How to get a job at …….’ series we go over Australian Mining and Construction projects from all over this great country of ours (Or in this case our Kiwi mates from across the Tasman). In each post we will include an Overview of the project, a Location Profile, the Companies involved, the Occupations required, the skills / qualifications that will help you to get your foot in the door and the Enterprise Bargaining Agreements. This will help you to stay in the loop and know how to skill up where needed. The aim is to help you get yourself into the best position to land a start on the major sites and projects around Australia.
About the Christchurch Earthquake Recovery Project
From the CERA website
Greater Christchurch has a population of just under 460,000 people, and it includes New Zealand’s second largest city. It is the gateway to the South Island and is its most significant centre of economic activity.
The series of earthquakes during 2010 and 2011 caused destruction in the city, to its infrastructure and services and the wellbeing of communities and people in the area. As a vibrant and strategic centre for the whole of the South Island, it’s important to recover from this disaster, adapt to ongoing seismic activity and enable a stronger and more resilient community and region.
The rebuilding of greater Christchurch provides an exciting opportunity for investment, innovation and job creation. Already much of greater Christchurch functions effectively and safely and is open for business.
The Treasury has estimated total rebuilding costs of $30 billion to $40 billion – the equivalent of almost 20 per cent of New Zealand’s annual GDP.
