About the Brisbane Airport Expansion
Approximately $3.8 billion is being invested in major projects at Brisbane Airport over the next decade.
Quick Facts:
- Owner – Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC)
- BAC is private, non-listed company owned by a collective of Super Funds, Managed Funds and other trusts and companies.
- Projects’ Timing and Budget Breakdown:
- New Parallel Runway
- Construction works until approximately 2020.
- Estimated budget of $1.35 billion.
- Approximately 2,700 jobs will be created during peak construction.
- Estimated to generate approximately 7,800 jobs for the region by 2035.
- Three construction Phases:
- Site preparation – which is now complete
- Dredging and reclamation works – which is now complete
- Construction of the pavements and airfield – works runnings from 2017 to approximately 2020.
- Domestic Terminal Major Projects:
- Numerous Projects predicted to exceed $300 million in cost.
- Qantas Lounges:
- Works estimated to run from March 2016 – Early 2017.
- Virgin Australia Baggage Handling System:
- Works estimated to run from March 2016 – December 2017.
- Domestic Terminal Fire System Upgrade:
- Works estimated to run from September 2016 – September 2017.
- Budget estimate is $21 million.
- Domestic Regional Satellite:
- Works timing estimate is yet to be announced.
- Budget estimate is $40 million.
- International Terminal Major Projects:
- Northern Concourse Expansion:
- Works estimated to run from Late 2016 – Late 2017.
- Budget estimate is $73 million.
- Northern Concourse Expansion:

- International Northern Apron Expansion
- Works estimated to run from September 2016 – Late 2017.
- Budget estimate is $47 million.
- Domestic Northern Apron Expansion
- Works timing estimate is yet to be announced.
- Budget estimate is $62 million.
- Hotel Taxiway Upgrade:
- Works estimated to run from Late 2016 – Late 2017.
- Budget estimate is $29 million.
- International Northern Apron Expansion

Qualifications that may help you get a foot in at the Brisbane Airport Expansion
- Relevant Trade Qualifications and QLD Licences
- Occupational Health and Safety – Construction Induction (White Card)
- Australian Drivers Licences
- High Risk Work Licence for any required plant, eg. EWP, Forklifts, Mobile Crane, Loaders.
- Safely Working at Heights – for EWP workers
- Ability to pass Medical including Drug and Alcohol screening.
- Dogging/Rigging/Scaffolding tickets
- CPR and First Aid Certificate

Brisbane Airport Expansion Enterprise Bargaining Agreements
An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) is a collective industrial agreement between either an employer and a trade union acting on behalf of employees or an employer and employees acting for themselves.
We are yet to find any EBA’s for this project. As we find any EBA’s they will be added to this article.
